An exhibit titled “Quilts from Local Artists” will be on display July 13-31 at the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge, 461 West Outer Dr. The show will be on exhibit in Imagination Gallery and feature fabric artists who are members of the Smoky Mountain Quilters, a quilt guild for regional quilters that meets in Knoxville.
“Local quilters will be showing quilts that have a special meaning to family and friends, including fun and happy quilts using different techniques that are meant to be enjoyed. Some have been in shows, but several were just made for the joy of making quilts,” said quilter Patty Ashworth, who organized the show.
Besides Ashworth, the quilters featured in the show will include: Gloria Felter, Tone Haugen-Cogburn, Erin Cogburn, Candace Tucker, Laura Muckenfuss, Kip Ford, and Kim Haynes. Several are also members of the Out of Towners quilt group. This exhibit is funded under an agreement with the State of Tennessee, the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The show will be on exhibit during the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Expo in Knoxville from July 22-25 at Knoxville Convention Center, featuring classes, workshops, contests, vendors and appraisals.
